Dead Snow

Normally when I see something is a Norwegian movie I prepare myself in a similar way you do for a Coldplay album and hide the razors prepared for depression.

However, Dead Snow proves they actually have a rather good sense of humour.

Writer/Director Tommy Wirkola picks a winning formula for any cult movie- getting zombies, Nazis and a cabin of young 20 somethings in one film to create havoc.

The Nazi zombie combo is a winning one and possibly the best cult idea since bubba ho tep with Elvis fighting of a zombie.

What makes this film enjoyable is the way it is made- while it looks good it never takes itself too seriously and is at peace with it place in cinema.

The film has a wicked sense of humour and often the film makers take pleasure in surprising the audience with sudden deaths and unexpected funny bits.

There is an obvious love of American cinema with plenty of references to it thanks to the one of the characters who is reminiscent of Jamie Kennedy's character in the Scream franchise.

Despite plenty of blood and cool deaths there was only one bit sick feeling and it was the only sex scene- which occured on a long drop.

The character in question had just completed a dump and had wiped himself when an attractive blond came in- the scene wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't extensive sucking of his fingers.

Dead Snow should not be ignored though as it is a lot of fun.

So see it.

But remember it is after all a cult film so needs to be taken with a grain of salt,
